No Animal Food
Rupert H. Wheldon
Excerpts from Vegan Lectures from early1900s. Read by Ben Adams
Though little is known about its author, this is considered the first vegan cookbook ever written. At the time of its composition, the Vegetarian Society and other advocates of vegetarian diets were engaged in a debate about the inclusion of dairy and eggs in one's regime. This text declares, from the title to the footnotes, that the best diet is free from all animal products. The arguments span historical, physical, ethical, aesthetic, and economic considerations and conclude with practical advice that stands the test of time. An essential text for those interested in vegetarianism and animal rights.
We collected these audio lectures from Librivox.org to demonstrate that the idea of the Whole Food Plant based diet is neither new or invented by Sister White. In the lecture on dairy products some may argue that Sister White did not, at least in her day, speak against dairy products but careful study of that question in her writings on health will disclose that, even when having one's own carefully managed cow, she still said that all milk must be boiled! Why boiled? and what about today where it is all 'pasteurized'?
The fact is that pasteurization is not the same as boiling, with this process only some germs are killed, some are slowed down a little but soon recover and disease can still be spread to humans from such products. So if even milk from the best possible conditions is still dangerous, what does that say about the unnatural and chemical-ridden products of today! Indeed Sister White did affirm in the 1800s that dairy and all animal products would SOON be unsafe for use. This covers the question of eggs as well.
We are not including the recipes as they would be hard to follow where the names for ingredients differ from today, and with little searching, whole food plant based recipes are readily available to us all. The dietary advice in this book we do not include as we have more accurate information from the Health Reform guidance from the Messenger of the Lord.
